The teaching and learning process in Chinese Language and Culture is designed based on the values embedded in Kerangka Kualifikasi Nasional Indonesia (KKNI), Outcome Based Education (OBE), MBKM (Freedom to Learn Policy), and Common European Framework (CEFR) for language learning and Educational Philosophy of the Faculty of Cultural Studies. Outcome-Based Education (OBE) has also been implemented in Chinese Language and Culture since 2016. The teaching activities are held in the form of class meetings, practicum, fieldwork or community service, and academic activities.

The Chinese Language and Culture offers 64 courses with a total of 147 credits. This curriculum structure consists of 20 credits of character building courses, 106 credits of compulsory courses which cover the courses on English Language Skills, Core Courses on Language, Literature and Culture and Research, 47 credits of elective courses on Language, Literature, and Culture, and 32 credits of elective courses on subject-related specializations in language, literature and tourism; Mandarin in information and communication technology; and Mandarin in business and office management.

During the pandemic, all teaching and learning activities are carried out in an online mode. The meetings can be conducted either synchronous (online face-to-face meetings, e.g., Zoom meeting or Google meeting) or asynchronous (using learning management systems such as Google Classroom, VLM). The university has provided an online learning platform called Virtual Learning Management (VLM) that can be accessed by all students and lecturers of Brawijaya University. This platform provides various features to support the teaching-learning process. Besides, Brawijaya University has also cooperated with Google to provide all Google-based education platforms such as Google Classroom, Google Forms, Google sites, Google Meeting, and others. Lecturers also use other platforms such as Zoom that is provided by the Faculty with a premium version and also Edmodo.

The credit system is used to determine whether a student’s learning was successful or not. The lecturer is in charge of evaluating the credit system. Lecturers are responsible for assigning grades to students based on the appropriate indicators. The credit scores for each course reflect students’ efforts in doing face-to-face activities, practicum, structured assignments, field work practices, and so on. The cognitive, psychomotor, and affective components of the examination are all considered.

The following formula is used to determine the GPA (Indeks Prestasi/IP):

K = Credit for each course is denoted by the letter K.
N = Each course’s worth.
∑K = The total number of credits scheduled for the semester.
∑K×N = For each course, the number of times K is multiplied by N.
