On November 30, 2024, a student from the Chinese Literature Study Program of Brawijaya University’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Theodora Putri Aleni Tarigan, achieved remarkable success in a Chinese language and literature skills competition. She won the Honorable Mention award in the “Dubbing Competition” with the theme “Sound On The Scene”, held as part of the 中文播报新闻和配音比赛 event. This competition was organized by the Mandarin Language Center and the Chinese Language Education Department at Malang State University.

The 中文播报新闻和配音比赛 is a provincial-level competition involving students from all over East Java. The competition began on October 28 with video submissions, which were open until November 20. The finals, where winners were announced, took place on November 30.

Theodora’s interest in dubbing started during her participation in the 7th PETAK99 competition. At that time, she was interested in registering for two competition categories: solo dancing and dubbing. However, the rules required participants to choose only one category, and she ultimately chose solo dancing. Not long after, an opportunity to compete in dubbing arose through the 中文播报新闻和配音比赛. With her interest in dubbing and the fact that the competition had no registration fee, she decided to join.

Despite limited preparation due to her busy schedule, Theodora won the Honorable Mention in the dubbing competition. This achievement highlighted her exceptional talent in dubbing, in addition to her well-known dance abilities. When asked if she would consider entering similar competitions in the future, Theodora responded, “I would likely join again if there’s an opportunity to hone my dubbing skills. I would definitely take it.”

Theodora hopes to continue developing her talents, and she hopes that her achievement can serve as an inspiration and motivation for other students in the Chinese Literature Study Program of Brawijaya University’s Faculty of Cultural Sciences to keep striving for excellence and creativity in the future.
