January 31, 2025 – Brawijaya University’s Chinese Literature Study Program collaborates with PT Donlim Teknologi Indonesia through a student internship program that will be held from August 20, 2024 to February 19, 2025. PT Donlim Teknologi Indonesia is a large Chinese company engaged in manufacturing home appliances, including kitchenware, baby equipment, home care equipment, and refrigeration. The company has been operating since 1995 and is located in the Central Java Land Industrial Park Sayung, Demak, with a total of 30 thousand employees.
This internship program is recognized as part of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) Non-Ministry Partner activities and can be converted into credits. In this program, there are three 2021 students who participated in the internship, namely Amira Desianti Hasan, Selena Angel Bula, and Gati Artasya Sugmadhevi. During the internship, they served as field translators from Mandarin (Native Chinese) to Indonesian for local workers.
“The challenge when becoming an interpreter in the field is that you have to think fast, and understand what is being said, while we have never discussed (contexts related to) project vocabulary, project tools like that (in college),” said Gati.
By participating in this internship program, students feel various benefits, such as gaining insight and experience of the world of work, as well as developing soft skills and hard skills, especially in Mandarin. A message from these students to UB Chinese Literature students is to not be afraid to try internships “Just try it, because the world of work is very different from (the world of) college”, added Gati.
