Saturday, February 22, 2020, Chinese Literature Study Program Student Association, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya held an annual routine event called Cap Go Meh. What is Cap Go Meh? How’s the history? What are the activities? Let’s see.
The Cap Go Meh Festival is a festival dedicated to paying homage to the Thai God Yi, the highest god in the sky during the Han dynasty (206 BC – 211 m ). In the past, the Cap Go Meh festival was held in private to the palace and was not yet known to the public. When the reign of the Han Dynasty ended, only then did Cap Go Meh enter and be known by the public. Cap Go Meh is an annual festival which is held 15 days after Chinese New Year.
The implementation of Cap Go Meh at Brawijaya University started at 08.00 WIB which involved students from the 2016 to 2019 class, lecturers, and the dean of the Chinese Literature Study Program, and did not forget that several children from the orphanage also enlivened the annual event. This activity is divided into several parts, starting with talk shows as the opening event, games involving students and orphanage children, social services for orphanages, performances for each generation such as singing several songs , to exchanging gifts between students, both upper and lower class. . Not only entertainment and social service, this Cap Go Meh activity also includes the delivery of material presented by Cahyo as one of the lecturers of the Chinese Literature Study Program. To conclude the activity, the students together ate Cap Go Meh’s signature dish, namely Lontong Lodeh/Manisa. High enthusiasm from all parties involved in Cap Go Meh succeeded in enlivening Cap Go Meh this year.
